Michael could work from anywhere, so he chose Tasmania.

With the benefits of cloud technology, Michael Speglic knew he could take his IT capacities and business drive anywhere. So he moved to the place he loved the most, Tasmania.

Michael is the Managing Director of MINT Telecom, which he established in Battery Point in Hobart in 2015. The team Michael leads at MINT brings together experience working in the local industry and overseas, and provide telephony, national broadband network (NBN) and broadband ADSL services to local Tasmanians and Australia more broadly.

Providing services from the business’s Hobart base is one of the things that excites Michael. His customers are often surprised to realise the person on the other end of the phone is just down the road!

Having spent a number of years in the industry, including among the hustle and bustle of London, Michael and his family now relish Tasmania and the accessibility, community and lifestyle it offers.

“When I worked in London I would spend 50 minutes commuting each way to work every day. I now get to work in seven minutes or could walk there in 25 minutes. That is a lot of time that is freed up for family. The ability to just duck out to the kid’s sport or classes is something that rarely exists in a big city,” explains Michael.

For MINT, Tasmania is the perfect location. The company operates in a national market and can do that easily from Tasmania. “It doesn’t matter where we are. That’s the benefit of the NBN. It’s one network across the entire country. You can run a business from anywhere. Why not make it in one of the best places in Australia?”

As well as offering digital access and connection capacity, Michael finds Tasmania to be a convenient home base with Melbourne only an hour away by plane.
