Published 12 July 2016. Last Updated 18 April 2018

Trade in the trolley and enjoy a stroll amidst outdoor stalls of local and fresh produce, products and live entertainment.

Weekends are a special time in Tasmania. Not only is it time to relax, indulge your senses and explore, it is also a time when alleyways, halls, carparks and streets across the state are filled with local produce, products, community and of course coffee.

Each Saturday, an otherwise unassuming inner city carpark in Launceston in northern Tasmania turns into a feast of colours, food, sounds, treasures and people as the Harvest Launceston Community Farmers’ Market springs to life.

The accessibility of local produce in Tasmania is never more apparent than at such markets, where you can talk to the farmers and taste food harvested that same morning.

Opening at 8:30am, the Harvest Market is the perfect place to pick up a locally roasted coffee, and enjoy a breakfast, or perhaps brunch for the later risers, of freshly made bread and pastries. Before loading up on seasonal fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers, organic milk, free range eggs, hormone- free meats – and don’t forget the locally made preserves, cider and cool climate wines – to take home with you.

Looking for the perfect recipe to use all of your fresh produce? The Harvest Market have that covered too, with seasonal recipes on their website.

Behind the story

Find the Harvest Launceston Community Farmers’ Market on Saturday from 8.30am – 12.30pm at 71 Cimitiere Street, Launceston (in the car park opposite Albert Hall).

If you are thinking about heading down this weekend, you can find out more about the Harvest Launceston Community Farmers’ Market, and meet the stall holders on their website.

There are so many great markets on this weekend around the state, discover one near you.
